US Actor Harrison Ford Plane Crash In Los Angeles

After my articles regarding drones & airspace issues I was looking for a story relating to personal aircraft flying over civilian airspace. The crash took place at around 22:00pm GMT yesterday.

The 72 year old Indiana Jones star reported an engine failure and crash landed his 1942 Ryan Aeronautical ST3KR vintage plane. Although he is said to have suffered ‘multiple gashes’ to his head his condition is described as stable – he is expected to make a full recovery.

He wasn’t able to reach the runway and made an emergency landing onto the golf course, onlookers pulled him from the wreckage amid fears it could catch fire and explode. Officials report he was flying at an altitude of 3,000 feet and struck a tree on his descent. Being a trained pilot officials say Ford ‘executed a perfect emergency landing’ and did the right thing in the situation

Which bring me onto the question I intended to pose with this article… Should private jets be able to fly over civilian airspace? and was this ‘vintage’ craft really fit for flight – what is your opinion?

This isn’t Harrison’s first accident in an aircraft in 1999 Ford crashed his helicopter during a training flight in LA, fortunately neither him nor the crew were hurt, a year later he made an emergency landing; again neither him or the crew sustained significant injuries… Proof that Indiana Jones can’t be hurt?
