Stuart Pearce hopes to raise asbestos awareness

Former England legend Stuart Pearce hopes to raise asbestos awareness after he reveals his history with asbestos to the HSE in a recent interview. Stuart fears his ignorance of the fatal fibre during his pre-football career working as an electrician means there’s a real possibility he could develop an asbestos related disease in the future.

For those who aren’t aware asbestos is a naturally occurring fibrous material which was regularly used in buildings from the 1950s until the late 1990s, used as insulation and for fire prevention. It is still found today in many buildings, including homes, schools and hospitals; if disturbed, it can be a killer. Asbestos awareness needs to be raised in order to prevent people accidental stumbling across is and disturbing it

“It’s chilling to think I could have been exposed to it without knowing, we were simply ignorant about the risks back then.”

– Pearce is now backing an asbestosawareness campaign with the HSE urging all tradespeople to be aware of the hidden killer.

An estimated 1.3million people are still potentially at risk of being exposed to these fibres which if breathed in can prove fatal.

No one is safe from asbestos if the right measures aren’t taken, if your home or workplace was built before the year 2000 it could contain asbestos.
