Why Healthy Working RiskAI Works

Traditional manual handling assessments depend on someone watching a task and making a judgement, which takes time and can vary from one assessor to the next. Healthy Working RiskAI, developed by our technology partner Cardinus, uses short smartphone videos and artificial intelligence to measure how the body actually moves. This gives you consistent, objective results that our health and safety team can then turn into practical improvements for your workplace.

Instant Risk Scoring

Film a task on your phone and receive a clear risk score within seconds, with no specialist equipment or sensors needed. It’s a quick way to see which activities need attention first, so you can focus time and budget where they matter most.

Joint-by-Joint Analysis

The technology tracks the movement of key joints, including the back, shoulders, elbows and knees, throughout the task. This shows exactly which parts of the body are under strain and why, rather than giving a single general rating.

Video Evidence & Overlay

Your results are shown over the original footage, highlighting the moments of highest risk as they happen. This gives you a clear visual record for your risk assessments, and it makes it easier to explain changes to your staff and management.

Actionable Recommendations

Every assessment comes with practical suggestions for reducing risk, such as changes to working heights, load sizes or handling techniques. You can then re-scan the task after making changes to check that your improvements have worked.

Manual Handling Risk Assessments

Manual handling can be described as transporting or supporting a load by hand or bodily force. As well as lifting, this can also include lowering, carrying, pushing or pulling.

The important factors to keep in the forefront of your mind when handling large objects at work are the weight, size, distance you are carrying it, and where you are placing it (e.g. is it the floor or a shelf?).

It is proven that awkward postures and heavy manual labour are all contributing factors to musculoskeletal disorders. According to HSE, these disorders account for more than a third of work related illnesses reported each year.

What Should You Be Doing

The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (MHOR) requires employers to assess and manage the risk to their employees. This requires the employer to make suitable and sufficient assessments of the task and reducing the impact of injury by using a hoist where available, or ensuring the employee has sufficient manual handling training.

The regulations require the employers to do the following:

Avoid

Where possible and practical, the employer needs to consider where the movement of heavy objects can be avoided.

Assess

The employer must risk assess the activity to ensure it’s as safe as can be for the person carrying out the task.

Reduce

The employer must reduce the risk of injury as far as reasonably possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

The law doesn’t identify a maximum weight limit. It is employers duty to manage and control risk, and therefore make reasonable decisions based on the individual carrying out the handling operation.

When carrying out a Manual Handling Risk Assessment, you should consider 4 main areas: the nature of the task, the capabilities of the individual performing it, the characteristics of the load and the layout of the environment.

Yes, we can! Incorrect techniques and inadequate health and safety training on manual handling can lead to injuries, back pain, limb damage and potentially worse.

Our Manual Handling training courses offer the choice of classroom based or online training.  Both will provide attendees with the essential information needed to understand the risks associated with manual handling and how to ensure appropriate measures are put in place to keep themselves and others safe.

You should review an assessment whenever there’s reason to think it’s no longer valid. Examples include changes to a task, the loads involved, the equipment or the working environment, or an injury or near miss. Many organisations also review assessments on a regular schedule, so risks don’t go unchecked as working practices gradually change.

All you need is a smartphone to film the task. There’s no need for wearable sensors or specialist equipment, and the person being filmed can carry out their work as normal. Once the footage is uploaded, you’ll receive a risk score within seconds, giving you a quick first view of where your risks are.

We see Sureteam as a key extension to our own internal health and safety team here at Squared. Sharing many of our own values, and acting as a “critical friend”, they add real value across all levels of the organisation.

Having taken the time to get to understand who we are and what specific risks we face, means that their advice and training is always practical and relevant. They are always accessible and happy to help support anyone within the organisation and through our ever-evolving relationship we have been able to build and maintain a safe and secure organisation for our teams, customers and wider community.”

Claire Bryan, Director of People Excellence, Squared

The training that we received from Sureteam was fantastic. Peter was informative, knowledgeable and made the training accessible and relevant to us. Peter related all the information to the context of our setting and used examples to highlight the important information that we needed as well and giving us advise about what we could improve and take forward following the training.

Sureteam really are the whole package when it comes to Health and Safety providers. As an in-house Health and Safety Manager the safety of my staff and customers is paramount at all times but with the additional support of Sureteam I have added piece of mind that I am supported fully.  Whether it is helping me to stay up to date with regulation changes, get a fresh set of eyes on our procedures or get additional, practical advice and support on new issues should they arise.  Over the years I have developed a fantastic, close working relationship with the entire team at Sureteam and look forward to that continuing for many years to come.

Gill Findlay, Installation QH+S Manager – Langley Design

Having worked with Sureteam since we started the business and been impressed by their expertise and professionalism, we knew that we wanted to partner with them for this larger project. Knowing that we could trust them absolutely to ensure our compliancy with the CDM Regulations and to deliver and provide high-quality health and safety advice, documents and training was so important to us, our sub-contractors and ultimately our client.

Our new two-tier contract system with Sureteam, really provides us with the flexibility and service that we require given the changeable nature of the projects we work on and helps ensure our budgets are spent wisely.  Knowing we have their support in this way means we can tender for larger projects with confidence.
